This week we tried spaghetti for the first time (definitely need to cut this up smaller for our next attempt as she really wasn’t happy about it!) and also tried fish, which Clara seemed to quite enjoy.

In general, I feel like she has been put off of food slightly ever since we started to make the purees a little bit chunkier which is a bit frustrating. On the one hand, she has always had a very small appetite compared to other babies her age so the last thing I want is for it to get even smaller, but on the other hand I also don’t want to get stuck in a rut where she will only accept foods that have no texture to them so I feel like we just need to persevere with the lumpier stuff. The most important thing is that she is still gaining weight at the right rate so I’m probably worrying about it over nothing.
Clara also took us by surprise this week by suddenly working out how to sit herself up all by herself and get herself back down again. At first I thought Jamie had imagined it, but she did it again a couple of minutes later right in front of us. I’m super-impressed, as it didn’t even seem to be something that she had been trying to achieve – it just came completely out of the blue!

In other news, we have been on a poo strike this week. No idea why, as she doesn’t seem to be in pain or straining; in fact, she has been in a really good mood! I’ve been feeding her pears, plums & broccoli as I’ve heard that they are natural laxatives, but after day six I gave in and took her to the doctors. He agreed that she seemed perfectly happy, but recommended giving Clara some lactulose. Finally, after eight days we have movement!! All very strange – maybe it is just her body getting used to different foods and learning to digest them.
