Weaning – week 10

Clara enjoying her wafer

This week’s new foods were tuna, pork & spaghetti. Clara really liked the tuna, which I mashed up with some avocado, but both the pork and spaghetti meals were a bit more of a struggle. I don’t think it is that she doesn’t like the flavour, but she definitely had real texture issues with both of them and didn’t seem to like the way that they felt in her mouth. I think we are going to have to mush her foods up a little bit more than we have been, as ever since we switched to chunkier dishes she has been fussing over them a lot more than she used to.

We also tried out some Pumpkin & Banana Yummy Wafer Wisps by Heavenly this week. These are quite hard at first but as Clara sucks on them they disintegrate fairly easily so have been good practice for teaching her about different textures and also getting her more used to finger foods. They actually taste really nice and they keep her very occupied for a few minutes which allows us to eat our own food for a little while! I always planned that we would sit down and have mealtimes together as a family each evening, but it has become so impossible lately as Clara needs constant attention whilst feeding and our own food always ends up going cold. Hopefully finger foods will be the turning point on this as it would be lovely to all be able to enjoy our food at the same time!

We haven’t been up to much this week but I did take Clara to Croydon for a bit of a browse and she seemed to really enjoy herself. She always makes so many friends while we are out and it is lovely that so many people stop to say hello to her or have a little chat with us as it gets her used to being around other people. I am always a little bit worried that as she doesn’t go to nursery she won’t be very good at socialising, but outings like this give her a good opportunity to be involved in conversations which is nice.
