Week two of Clara on solids done and dusted and we are starting to get quite a stockpile of foods for her prepped and ready in the freezer! I’m finding it really convenient to have a couple of days where I cook up quite a few purees and have a freezing session as it means that there are always meals on hand in the freezer for any times when I don’t have the time to prepare something from scratch. I imagine this will become invaluable once Clara is onto two or three meals a day as well!
Clara’s first cough
So we woke up this morning to the sound of Clara having a bit of a cough. We didn’t think much of it at first, but after about three coughing episodes within 15 mins we both realised that she was feeling poorly. She has been coughing and sneezing on and off all day and has also got a bit of a runny nose too.
Clocks changing & family dinner
So in our slightly less traditional take on the Easter Sunday roast dinner, we decided to have my parents over today instead for a gorgeous Easter Saturday lamb roast and rhubarb crumble pudding.
Sunshine & bank holidays
Today is Good Friday and Jamie has booked the whole of next week off work so that we are able to have a bit of family time over the next few days which will be lovely. When we woke up this morning the weather was absolutely gorgeous so we decided to make the most of it and go for a little walk with Clara as we have been dying to try out the new seat on her Uppababy Cruz buggy for a couple of weeks now.
#TBT Telling people our news pt1
Initially when we first found out that I was pregnant I was adamant that I didn’t want anyone to know until after our first scan at 12 weeks, but in the end we decided to tell a couple of people just before the 7 week mark. This was a bit of a compromise really, as Jamie was keen to tell a couple of people so we both agreed that we would tell two people each and leave it at that.
Grandad returns!
So today Clara got to spend some time with her Grandad as he came over to stay on the way back from the airport this afternoon. He has been travelling around India for the last couple of months so we weren’t really too sure how much she would remember him when he returned, and at first she was definitely wary (although I’m not massively surprised as he was extremely tanned so actually looked quite different!).
Weaning – day 7
So we have come to the end of our first week and today’s food was pea puree. I sieved this one to make sure there were no tough skins in it and ended up with a lovely smooth vivid green puree which Clara loved.
Weaning – day 6
Today was my favourite (and Jamie’s worst nightmare)… avocado! This was also definitely the easiest to prepare so far as well as no cooking or blending was involved – it was just a case of simply mashing it up to a puree with a fork. I did thin it down a little bit with some breast milk just to make it a bit smoother and easier for Clara to eat as it was slightly underripe, but other than this it was good to go!
Weaning – day 5
On to day 5 of solids and today we gave cabbage a go. I hadn’t steamed cabbage before but will definitely do this again in future as it was so quick! I managed to get this one to a really good consistency that I was happy with, although I did strain it through a sieve just to make sure that there were no stringy fibrous pieces left in it so it was very smooth (I also did this for yesterday’s green beans too).
Weaning – day 4
On today’s menu was green bean puree. Clara had been in a bit of a funny mood today – acting a bit erratically and having quite a few teething ‘moments’ so we were a bit unsure how dinner would go this evening and to be honest it wasn’t particularly successful. She pretty much turned her nose up at the food and just wasn’t really in the mood to hold the spoon so we kept meal time pretty short. We helped her to have a bit of a taste of it and a sip of water but we got her back out of her high chair soon after as she was about to kick off! Guess we will go back to green beans again at a later date!!
