Last night we had our first full blown panic over a potential choking session. Clara had just eaten red pesto chicken puree for dinner for the first time and just as she was finishing up she started to make a really strange coughing noise like there was something tickling her throat. We gave her a bit of water but she continued to do it and we couldn’t work out why.
Taking a baby to a funeral?
Taking a baby to a funeral is apparently a topic of great contention on many online forums. Unfortunately, this week we had to make the decision of what side of the fence we stood on as my dad’s cousin Diane had passed away. I was quite close with her, so it seemed obvious that I was going to go along to the funeral and take Clara with me, but it wasn’t until I started to google what a baby should wear to a funeral that I realised that quite a few people online seem to frown upon a baby being present.
New Schedule
This week we introduced a new schedule for Clara to try and reduce the number of milk feeds that she has and to help her sleep better at night as it was starting to get a bit ridiculous. I’ve been breastfeeding her on demand up until now but as she is so used to being fed whenever she cries, wakes or needs sleep, it has also resulted in her asking for food several times during the night as comfort more than anything and we are really starting to feel the strain from the broken sleep that we are getting each night.
Clara’s first cough
So we woke up this morning to the sound of Clara having a bit of a cough. We didn’t think much of it at first, but after about three coughing episodes within 15 mins we both realised that she was feeling poorly. She has been coughing and sneezing on and off all day and has also got a bit of a runny nose too.
Clocks changing & family dinner
So in our slightly less traditional take on the Easter Sunday roast dinner, we decided to have my parents over today instead for a gorgeous Easter Saturday lamb roast and rhubarb crumble pudding.
Entering the blogosphere
So here goes… my very first blog post. My name is Amy and I’m a new mummy to baby Clara. With Clara having just turned five months and about to enter the scary world of weaning, it has made me realise that time is slipping by and immortalising our amazing journey together in blog-form will give us both something to look back on in the years to come and will hopefully offer guidance and reassurance to others out there along the way too.
