Weaning – week 8

weaning week 8
Clara in the pub garden

This week we tried egg again, although we only used the yolk this time in order to determine if Clara will have an allergic reaction to it. I hard boiled it and then mashed it up with a bit of avocado and she loved it! No vomiting this time so we will test the egg white again soon to see if that sets her off, otherwise it may have been a false alarm which would be nice. We have also tried out buttered toast fingers, peanut butter, rice cakes, chicken and lamb for the first time so it has been a pretty adventurous week!

Clara wasn’t overly impressed with the lamb which disappointed me a bit to be honest as I thought it tasted absolutely amazing and I was quite excited about her trying it for the first time. In fact, I liked it so much that once I had made hers I got food envy and ended up cooking myself and Jamie something quite similar for dinner with the leftovers! I’m pretty sure that her main issue with it was the lumpiness of it to be honest – the recipe said to mash it with the back of a fork but I just couldn’t get it as smooth as I would have liked so it was still quite a step up from the mega-pulverised mixtures that she has so far been used to.

During the week, we enjoyed a lovely picnic with some of the other mummies and babies from my antenatal class. It was nice to be able to put all of the babies down on blankets and let them interact with each other, and made for a lovely afternoon. We also had quite a busy weekend (despite the A&E visit on Saturday night). I went up to town with Clara for lunch with some friends, and we also made the most of the gorgeous sunshine and went for a pub lunch on Sunday after our swimming lesson which was great. Makes a change to be able to sit outside and eat lunch without feeling chilly or dreading rain!
