Finding out I was pregnant

In my first Throwback Thursday post I thought I’d look back at the moment I found out I was pregnant.

I’d always known that I wanted to be a mum. It was just something that I couldn’t imagine not being a part of my adult life, but when Jamie and I decided that we were ready to have a baby I don’t think either of us expected it to happen quite so quickly. We were both expecting it to take a while for a positive result to happen, but as it turns out I fell pregnant after the first month…

It was the 22nd of January, and I remember being at work watching a presentation about some new software that we were being trained in when I became aware of how uncomfortable I was suddenly feeling. My stomach was feeling quite bloated and my jeans felt very tight around my waist. I made my excuses and went to the toilet for a bit of air but didn’t really think much of it at the time. Over the next couple of days I seemed to be constantly peeing (although I had made a New Years’ Resolution to drink more water, so thought nothing of this at the time!) and I started to wear dresses instead of jeans thinking that I must have just put a bit of weight on over Christmas.

On Sunday 24th, I had been feeling quite run down and was convinced that I was coming down with a cold as Jamie had been ill the week before. I went to work as normal the following day but was still feeling pretty rough. Suddenly at about 10am I came over really funny and started to feel very queasy and clammy, convinced that I was going to be sick. I ended up leaving work at lunchtime and spent the rest of the day on the sofa with a funny feeling in my stomach.

I can’t explain it, but at that moment I just KNEW. My period was one day late and everything seemed to click into place – I just knew that I must be pregnant. When Jamie got back from work we drove to get a pregnancy test together and after a couple of hours I finally took it. In my mind I was already so sure that this was the reason for how I had been feeling lately that I don’t even remember being particularly surprised when I saw the result as I was just so certain!

The next day we went to the doctors together and we were given loads of leaflets and forms to fill in and that was the start of it all. Looking back on it now, I realise just how lucky we were for everything to happen so fast – Clara was definitely eager to join us!
