Moving on to broccoli today – this was a bit trickier to prepare than the potato yesterday as it needed blending in order to get it into a puree as opposed to a bit of fork mashing and I struggled to find a suitable container to put the broccoli into in order to use the hand blender on it as it was such a small quantity. In the end, I shoved it in a cup which seemed to do the trick, albeit with a bit of splashback!
I’ve found that putting about 4-5 heaped baby spoonfuls into her Salmon Luke bowl is plenty for her to play around with, and as she has been feeding it to herself she is probably only swallowing about 1-2 level spoons worth for each of the last two meals as a lot ends up over her face and bib (as you can see from the photo!!). I guess the nappies will be the true test of whether anything has really been going in!
Broccoli seemed to be a hit, and Clara seemed more confident with using the spoon today and started to get quite excited from the moment we put her into her high chair – she is definitely enjoying herself!
Freezing the leftovers has been working out quite well too. My potato from yesterday managed to make 12 ice cubes which were ready to transfer into a freezer bag today, and the leftovers from the broccoli made up 10 cubes. I reckon 2-3 cubes will probably be enough for each meal for the time being so it feels quite good to know that I already have 7+ meals sat in the freezer after only two days of prep work. We have used organic veg so far, and plan to do so wherever possible, but even with the added cost of organic produce it has still definitely been much cheaper than buying ready made meals so far.
